Kidney Transplant
Kidney Transplantation is the ideal treatment method for chronic kidney failure. With this treatment method, a kidney taken from a living donor or cadaver is transplanted to the patient through an operation.
In developed countries, when choosing a treatment method for a patient diagnosed with chronic renal failure, kidney transplantation is primarily evaluated before dialysis methods.
In our country, living kidney transplantation is performed with donations from patients' relatives up to the 4th degree relatives. Every patient diagnosed with kidney failure or starting dialysis should be evaluated for living donors. In this way, kidney transplantation can be performed without starting dialysis or after a short period of dialysis. This enables excellent results to be achieved regarding the patient's quality of life and life expectancy. For the donor in living transplantation, Detailed examinations (examination, blood-urine tests, Kidney ultrasonography, Computed Tomography, etc.) aim to perform the operation without putting the donor at the slightest risk.
In living organ transplants, the 1-year functioning rate of kidneys is 95%. After 5 years, 80% of the kidneys are healthy and function adequately. A kidney transplanted from a living person has the ability to work longer and more smoothly than a cadaver kidney.
Patients who do not have a living donor should be registered in the cadaver registry list. The biggest problem in this regard is insufficient organ donations. In our country, the waiting time on the cadaver list is quite long when evaluated according to different criteria. This is the biggest problem in kidney transplantation.
Kidney transplantation allows the patient to achieve a near-normal quality of life. These patients can go to school, give birth to children, return to business life and take part in society as a healthy person. This makes psychological problems less common in kidney transplant patients.
Life expectancy in patients undergoing Kidney Transplantation is 2-3 times longer than other treatment methods. This shows that this treatment has an unquestionable superiority in terms of life expectancy as well as quality of life.
The purpose of kidney transplantation is not just to perform surgery. The main goal is to ensure that this kidney works for years. This requires patients' compliance with treatment and regular check-ups.
