Vascular Controls

Dressing and monitoring of your fistula should be carried out in the hospital or at a dialysis center close to your home under the supervision of your vascular surgeon. At the dialysis center, your fistula should be checked and dressed in a sterile manner. Your dialysis nurse and doctor should be informed if a problem develops with your fistula. After 10 days, the dressing can be removed and the wound can be left open. Stitches will be removed 15-20 days after the operation.

At the end of 1 month, the maturity level of the fistula will be checked by your vascular surgeon. If there is a maturation problem, your checks will continue every 1 month.

If the necessary maturation cannot be achieved, your vascular surgeon may recommend you to have a repeat operation.
